What is the Modular Communication Concept ?
The development of PSTN Socket Modems and other embedded modem applications is always been one of the most important activities of Bausch Datacom. The Socket Modules that we design and produce are communication-ready devices that integrate data/fax functionality into a very space-efficient, embedded modem design (64,5 x 26,5 mm). One can integrate Bausch Socket Modems in all kind of devices that need to communicate such as copiers, embedded control systems, set-top boxes, communications for instrumentation equipment, Internet TV, etc… Of course we also integrate our Socket Modems into our own Proxima V.92 desktop modems. These V.92 Bausch modems consist of a standard ‘motherboard’ PCB supporting the interfacing and the power supply of the modem with a V92 Conexant based Socket Module plugged on it.
Proxima V.92 PSTN modems are perfect for remote or industrial sites with inconsistent environmental conditions and allow any product to communicate.  The modem comes in two different versions :  the Full version supports leased line, dump mode and async DTR-dialing and has an input voltage range from 9 to 60 V AC-DC, regulated. The input voltage range of the Proxima V.92 Lite is from 9 to 40 V AC-DC, regulated. For security reasons one can program the Proxima V.92 Full to support selective Caller ID answering to only one preprogrammed telephone number with disabled automatic answering (ATS0=0). This means that the Proxima V.92 Full modem will only go into Auto Answer when it recognizes the ID of 1 preprogrammed telephone number.  Configured in such a way it will never make a modem connection with any other calling modem. We also deliver optional firmwares which support selective Caller ID answering to 10 or 20 preprogrammed telephone numbers with disabled automatic answering (ATS0=0). On demand we implement an optional firmware which offers Dial Back Security Level I and II (password security and dial back of the Proxima V.92 Full to a preprogrammed (host) telephone number). This solution adds extra security to the modem and makes a decentralised cost management possible. We also have a specific firmware to configure the modem from a distance.
Firmware adaptations according to your specifications are only possible on demand in the Proxima V.92 Full modem. The Lite version with standard and unchangeable firmware inside is your everyday reliable and very stable modem for general industrial use.
For projects or very specific applications or price requests it is even possible to choose another PSTN communication module to reduce price or adapt to your specific application (see also PSTN socket modules and I-modules in this website).
